OUTLINE OF THE DAY

10am – 5pm: Full day’s mountain hike to the summit of Helvellyn, England’s 3rd highest mountain, via Striding Edge and Swirral Edge
5pm: Debrief back at Glenridding, then head home

NB: All timings are approximate. The route is approximately 13-km (8 miles), with 900m of ascent and descent across mountainous terrain. The route is steep and rocky in places, and includes prolonged sections of scrambling (hands on rock) along the exposed ridges (Grade 1) of Striding Edge and Swirral Edge; a head for heights is required. If it is very windy (30mph+) on the ridges then we may use alternative routes.
