MOUNTAIN SKILLS

Walking in the mountains is a rewarding and exhilarating experience. To stay safe and enjoy your time out on the fells you need some key skills and knowledge to guide you on your way.

From clothing and kit, to mountain weather and route planning we’ll show you how to prepare for your mountain day. From map skills and navigation strategies to relocation and dealing with steep ground, we’ll show you how to safely follow routes across the fells and mountains.

WILD CAMPING

In addition to this accredited Mountain Skills course, we will spend the night wild camping high up on the mountains, so that you can get the most from this course, including evening navigation up on the fells and learning about the mountain environment.

Mark will demonstrate how to wild camp properly (leave no trace) and good camp craft skills, including staying warm and dry, where and how to camp, legalities, responsibilities, toilet etiquette, food and purifying water. Mark Reid has 106 nights wild camping experience with groups.

We can provide most of your camping kit – choice of lightweight backpacking tent (1-person or 2-person), sleep-mat, expedition rucksack, dry-bag, JetBoil stove & gas (please provide your own sleeping bag, walking clothes & food).

* Please note: This wild camping experience is additional to the Mountain Skills course, and is designed to complement and enhance the learning during the course. If weather conditions are not conducive for wild camping, then we will camp in a remote valley campsite.
