Peak District Walking Weekend Tideswell, Peak District

With Mark Reid FRGS – author of The Inn Way guidebooks & Mountain Leader

Join us for our Peak District Walking Weekend in the beautiful Derbyshire Dales (White Peak) with its deep wooded limestone valleys and beautiful villages, and enjoy a wonderful weekend of adventures, shared experiences and new friendships.

Tideswell is a historic settlement, known locally as ‘Tidza’, which feels more like a small town than a village mainly because this was once an important trading centre with a market charter dating back to 1251. Tideswell grew as a market centre for the Royal Forest of the Peak, the hunting preserve administered from Peveril Castle, and it prospered from lead mining and wool. This wealth is reflected in the magnificent Church of St John the Baptist – the Cathedral of the Peak – built in the 14th century. The walking around Tideswell is excellent, with the beautiful Derbyshire Dales all around, including Cressbrook Dale, Monsal Dale, Water-cum-Jolly Dale and Miller’s Dale that offer wonderful valley walking alongside crystal-clear streams. There are limestone caves and cliffs, old railway viaducts and tunnels, ancient woodland and lovely villages to explore too.

The George Inn is situated at the heart of Tideswell, a lovely old coaching inn that dates back to at least the 18th century.

Mark Reid has written a number of walking guidebooks about the Peak District, including The Inn Way… to the Peak District, and so knows the surrounding hills and dales extremely well.
