EYAM – OUR BASE FOR THE WEEKEND

This walking break will be based from the beautiful village of Eyam in the heart of the Peak District National Park, famed as the Plague Village due to the altruism of its inhabitants in the 17th Century who quarantined themselves when the village was gripped by an outbreak of plague; 260 people died out of a total population of 350. This is a lovely part of the country, with rolling hills, quaint villages and beautiful valleys all around. The history of Eyam, pronounced ‘Eem’, stretches back to Saxon times, indeed the name of the village comes from the Saxon words meaning ‘village by the water’. It’s a lovely village to explore with lots of historic buildings including Eyam Hall and St Lawrence’s Church.

Accommodation ranges from self catering to B&Bs, Youth Hostel and the Miner’s Arms. For more information visit Eyam Village Website
